Lightsaber Apps and Bluetooth Control: What Each Core Lets You Change
Date Published
Last updated
Quick answer: there is no single lightsaber app. The app you need depends on the control board inside the hilt. Xeno3 boards use the free Xeno Configurator. Proffie sabers use a browser tool called the ProffieOS Workbench over USB, or over Bluetooth if the saber has a Bluetooth module, and a third-party app such as ForceSync. Crystal Focus (CFX) boards use the Crystal FX app. Golden Harvest v4 uses ForceSync Lite. Plain baselit sabers usually have no app at all and are set with the button. Check the exact board before you buy, because "has Bluetooth" is not the same on any two of them.
Which core has an app?
| Criterion | App or tool | Bluetooth built in? | What it controls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baselit (basic tiers) | None | No | Button only; see baselit explained |
| Xeno3, pixel or baselit wiring | Xeno Configurator (free, Android and iOS) | Yes, per one retailer (not the Stunt RGB) | Blade modes, effects, ignitions, colours, font testing, firmware |
| Xenopixel V2 | None described | No app | Button only; firmware by SD card |
| Proffie | ProffieOS Workbench (browser); ForceSync (third party) | Only with a Bluetooth module | Presets, volume, colours, fonts; battery and presets in ForceSync |
| Crystal Focus 10 (CFX) | Crystal FX app | Yes on Bluetooth-enabled units | About 200 blade profiles, colours, fonts, parameters |
| Golden Harvest v4 | ForceSync Lite (Android; iOS in development per a retailer) | Yes, per retailer | Board features; menu control also works on the saber |

Xenopixel V3 (Xeno3): the Xeno Configurator
If someone asks about a "Xenopixel V3 lightsaber app", this is it. The Xeno Configurator connects over Bluetooth to a Xeno3 board, edits blade modes, effects and ignitions, tests sound fonts, changes the colour per font and updates firmware. A retailer's advice is to use the app with the blade installed for the best connection. The App Store page shows version 1.6.4, last updated 2024-09-30, rated 2.6 out of 5 from 429 ratings, with reviews that mention Bluetooth connection trouble. So: useful, not flawless. Everything the app does is described at more length in what is a Xenopixel lightsaber.
Proffie: Workbench and Bluetooth
A Proffie saber is configured differently. The ProffieOS Workbench is a web app that talks to the board over WebUSB or Bluetooth and can adjust volume, show battery voltage, trigger effects and edit presets and fonts. For phone control over Bluetooth, the saber needs a Bluetooth module. One Proffie seller says its sabers need a Bluetooth-enabled power core, pairing is done through ForceSync with the phone's Bluetooth and location services on, and a passkey. The documentation notes that a Bluetooth device also needs a serial setting in the config, so a module alone is not enough on a build you flashed yourself.
ForceSync is made by an independent developer, and its App Store page shows it supporting Crystal Focus boards and Proffieboard, free, with battery level and preset changes for Proffie only. The listing we saw dates the last version to November 2020 and shows no rating, so check what the current store version says. The full setup route is in how to program and customise a Proffie saber.
Crystal Focus and Golden Harvest
These are not the cores this site covers most, but you will see them in listings. The Crystal FX app is the companion for Crystal Focus 10 boards: nearly 200 blade profiles, real-time colour editing, soundfont switching and a way to copy styles between sabers. The iOS listing shows version 8, rated 4.3 from 19 ratings, free with a $6.99 in-app purchase for Master-level access. Golden Harvest v4 uses ForceSync Lite, which one retailer lists as Android-only with iOS in development.
How do you connect a saber to Bluetooth?
The exact steps depend on the board. These are the common points from the sources above, not a universal procedure:
- Confirm the saber has Bluetooth, not just a listing that mentions an app.
- Install the right app for that board.
- Install the blade and charge the battery. One retailer says connection is best with the blade installed; a Proffie seller says the pixel blade acts as an antenna.
- Turn on your phone's Bluetooth. On a Proffie seller's guide, location services also need to be on.
- Wake the saber (some boards need standby or ignition) and open the app.
- Pick the saber from the list, and enter the passkey if asked.
- If it fails, restart the app, move closer, and check whether the board needs a firmware update.
Can you update lightsaber firmware?
Yes on some boards, in different ways. On Xeno3, the app does it. A retailer's page for Xenopixel V2 describes an SD-card route: take the card out, put it in a computer, replace specific folders with the maker's files, and put it back. The page warns that V2 files are not Mac compatible and that you should check your warranty first. On a Proffie, updating means flashing a new ProffieOS version from the Arduino IDE, or using the Workbench for settings only. Back up the SD card before any update. If a seller supplies update files, use theirs, not a stranger's.
Do you actually need an app?
For most owners, no. The sources we read say settings can also be changed by button combinations on Xeno and Golden Harvest boards, and baselit sabers are set by the button alone. The app is for deeper tweaks and convenience. Compare the gestures in how to use a lightsaber and the font side in sound fonts explained.
What to weigh before paying extra for app support:
- Reliability. App ratings for sabers are often middling. Treat the app as a bonus.
- Longevity. Apps depend on the maker. If updates stop, the saber should still work from its buttons.
- Privacy. The ForceSync listing says privacy details were not provided to Apple. Read the permission prompts, especially the location request.
- Platform. Some apps are Android-only or iOS-only, or only Apple-silicon on a Mac.
If you are choosing a core and an app matters to you, the core comparison puts the options together, and the which-lightsaber quiz can include it in the answer.
What to ask a seller about app support
A listing that says "app control" or "Bluetooth" is not enough. Ask these before you pay for it:
- Which app, by name, and is it free? Crystal FX, for example, is free with a paid tier.
- Which phones does it support? Android only, iOS only, or both, and does it need a recent OS version? The iOS listings we read ask for iOS 13 or later, 14.2 or later, or 11.4 or later depending on the app.
- Is Bluetooth built in, or is it an optional module? On a Proffie saber it is often a separate part.
- Which board and firmware version does the saber ship with, and does the app version match it?
- What can only be done in the app? If volume, colour and font change are all possible from the button, you lose less if the app breaks.
- Who updates it, the board maker or an outside developer? ForceSync, for instance, is made independently of the saber sellers who recommend it.
- Is the SD card reachable, so a font or firmware change does not depend on Bluetooth at all?
A seller who answers these plainly is more trustworthy than one who points at a screenshot.
Limits of this guide
We have not paired a saber with any of these apps or flashed a board, and this page does not claim hands-on testing. Features, versions and ratings come from app-store listings and seller help pages accessed on 2026-10-06; they change often. Names of apps and boards belong to their owners and are used descriptively; we are not affiliated with them.
Frequently asked questions
Does a neopixel lightsaber have an app?
Neopixel describes the blade, not the board. The app depends on the board: Xeno3 has one, Proffie can use the Workbench or a third-party app, and many basic boards have none.
Is there a Proffie app?
There is a browser-based Workbench, and a third-party app (ForceSync) that works with Proffieboards that have Bluetooth.
Does a baselit lightsaber have an app?
Basic baselit boards do not. A Xeno3 board wired for baselit can use the Xeno Configurator.
Can I update the firmware myself?
On some boards. Xeno3 updates through the app, Xenopixel V2 by SD card, and Proffie by flashing. Follow the seller's instructions and back up first.
Why will my saber not connect?
Common causes in the sources are a missing blade, the wrong app for the board, Bluetooth or location permissions, or a saber without a Bluetooth module.
