What Is a Xenopixel Lightsaber? V3 Features, App, Manuals and Limits

Quick answer: "Xenopixel" (also written Xeno) is a family of ready-to-use lightsaber control boards. It is not a blade type. A Xenopixel saber normally pairs the board with a pixel blade, an LED strip inside the tube that lets the blade ignite from base to tip and show effects. The current generation, usually called Xeno3 or V3, adds Bluetooth control from a phone app, an SD card for extra sound fonts, and firmware updates. It sits between a simple baselit board and a fully configurable Proffie board: more effects than the first, much less to learn than the second.
Is Xenopixel a blade, a board or a brand name?
A board, with a confusing set of names around it. Sellers call the same electronics by different labels, and you will meet all of these:
| Criterion | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Xenopixel, Xeno | The board family |
| Xeno V2 Pixel, "Eco Xenopixel" | The earlier generation, pixel blade |
| Xeno3, Xeno V3, Xenopixel V3 | The newer generation with app and Bluetooth |
| Xeno3 RGB | The same Xeno3 board wired for a baselit (hilt-lit) blade |
| Xeno3 Pixel | Xeno3 with a pixel blade |
| "SN Pixel V3", "LGT Xenopixel" | Seller or maker variants of the same type of board |
| Master Core | A seller's name for a core module, 34 fonts in one retailer's description |
The practical lesson: always read the product page for the board version, the blade type and the number of fonts, because the headline name does not tell you. If you want the logic of blade types first, see Neopixel lightsabers explained.
What does Xeno3 add over V2?
Per two retailer help pages and the app listing (accessed 2026-10-06):
| Criterion | Xenopixel V2 | Xeno3 (V3) |
|---|---|---|
| Blade support | Pixel | Pixel or baselit (hybrid wiring, one retailer) |
| Sound fonts | Fixed set, cycled with button holds | 16 preloaded in one retailer's description, 34 in others; SD card accepts more |
| Phone app | Not described | Free Xeno Configurator on Android and iOS, Bluetooth built in |
| Firmware updates | A published update page exists for V2 | Updated through the app |
| Customisation | "Fixed sound font customization" | Blade modes, effects, ignitions and colours in the app; fonts testable |
Note the wording: the same retailer calls V3 "fixed sound font customization" on the pixel version's help page while another retailer's description says an SD card allows more fonts. Whether you can add your own fonts therefore depends on the exact model and firmware. Ask before you buy if that matters to you. We cover the file side in lightsaber sound fonts explained.
How does the app work, and how good is it?
The Xeno Configurator app connects over Bluetooth to a Xeno3 board, lets you edit blade modes, effects and ignitions, test sound fonts, change colours per font and update firmware. A retailer says it works with all Xeno electronics except the Stunt RGB, and recommends using the app with the blade installed for the best connection.
Be realistic. The iOS listing, as of 2026-10-06, shows version 1.6.4 last updated 2024-09-30 and a rating of 2.6 out of 5 from 429 ratings, with reviews citing Bluetooth connection problems and limited customisation. That is a snapshot. A review published in May 2023 called the app "fairly new". Treat the app as a convenience, not a guarantee, and check that the saber can still be set with its buttons. More on the topic in lightsaber apps and Bluetooth.
Where does Xenopixel fall short?
- Not open. Proffie's firmware is open source; we found no open firmware published for Xeno boards, so you depend on the maker's app and updates.
- Fewer places to go deep. Retailers describe the options as limited compared with a Proffie board, with SD card configuration for basic edits.
- Pixel blades are less forgiving than hollow ones. The strip is inside the tube; a hard strike can damage it. See dueling safety and check the blade rating on the specific model, not the board name.
- Model-specific limits. On one V2 control sheet, the melt or tip-drag effect works on 37-inch blades only. Read the control sheet for your length.
- App dependence. If a feature lives only in the app and the maker stops updating it, you cannot fix that yourself on a closed board. Button control still works, as the section above shows, but ask which features need the app (our inference, not a tested result).
- Naming drift. Version labels and font counts vary by seller (16 versus 34), so comparison shopping needs care.
What can you change without the app?
Quite a lot, from the button alone, which is why the app is optional. Retailer control sheets (accessed 2026-10-06) describe a standby mode, where the blade is off but the board listens, and an active mode, where the blade is lit.
- From standby, holding the button for set lengths changes volume (low, medium, high, on V2 also mute), the blade effect (steady, unstable, pulse on the V3 sheets; V2 adds rainbow and fire), the blade profile or mode, and on V3 RGB toggles for clash and motion detection. On V2, holding longer cycles to the next sound font.
- While lit, a press triggers a blaster-deflect effect, a longer hold gives lock-up, another hold starts colour change, and a long hold switches the blade off.
The V2 sheet lists ten blade modes with names such as Ghost, Broken and Photon; a 2023 review of a V3 saber lists seven effects, including Cracked, Flash and Candy. The names are the maker's, they differ by generation, and the only reliable way to know what your saber offers is the control sheet for your exact model. We put the common gestures side by side in how to use a lightsaber.
What does a Xenopixel saber cost?
Prices below are single-listing observations from 2026-10-06; none has been re-verified on the live page.
| Criterion | Band seen |
|---|---|
| Xeno3 electronics only (RGB / pixel) | about $60 / $90 |
| A 2023 review of a finished Xeno3 saber | $149 for that model |
| Premade Xeno-type sabers from one retailer | about $405–$420 list, before a promotion |
The spread is wide because the hilt, blade, battery and finishing drive most of the price. The cost drivers are in how much does a lightsaber cost; a side-by-side with other cores is in Baselit vs Xenopixel vs Proffie and the three-way comparison.
Who is a Xenopixel saber for?
| Criterion | Fit |
|---|---|
| A buyer who wants a pixel blade without a learning curve | Good |
| A hobbyist who wants a phone app | Good, with the app's reliability caveat |
| A buyer who wants to tune every effect or run open firmware | Look at Proffie |
| A parent or heavy duelist | Check the blade rating, not the board |
| A budget buyer who only wants a lit blade | A baselit saber may cost less |
The which-lightsaber quiz can narrow it down.
What to check on a Xenopixel listing
- Version: V2 or Xeno3/V3.
- Blade type: pixel or baselit. Xeno3 can be wired for either.
- Font count, and whether you can add fonts from an SD card.
- App compatibility and Bluetooth, with the blade installed.
- Charge port (one review notes USB-C) and whether the saber can be used while charging.
- Spare blade availability and price.
- Manual: is there a control sheet for your exact model? It matters, because gestures differ. Use how to use a lightsaber.
- Warranty and returns, particularly for the strip.
Limits of this guide
We have not handled a Xenopixel saber or tested the app, and this page does not claim hands-on testing. Specs and prices come from retailer pages, a third-party review and an app-store listing, accessed on the dates shown. Names such as Xenopixel, Xeno3 and Xeno Configurator belong to their owners and are used descriptively; we are not affiliated with them.
Frequently asked questions
Is Xenopixel the same as Neopixel?
No. Neopixel describes an LED-strip blade. Xenopixel is a control board that usually drives such a blade.
What is Xeno3?
The third generation of the board, sold as Xeno3, Xeno V3 or Xenopixel V3. It adds a Bluetooth app and firmware updates.
How many sound fonts does it have?
Retail descriptions say 16 or 34 depending on the model, plus more through an SD card on some versions. Read your product page.
Can I use a Xenopixel board with a baselit blade?
One retailer describes the Xeno3 as wired for either blade type, but the exact core must be bought for the blade you have.
Where do I find the manual?
Check the seller's help page for your exact model, because the button gestures differ between V2 and V3.
